Discussions surrounding the potential resignation of the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, began Thursday night among key political party leaders, including those from the BNP. In light of the current political situation, several parties are scheduled to meet with the Chief Adviser today (Saturday).

BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders have been invited to separate meetings at Dr. Yunus’s official residence, Jamuna. The BNP delegation, led by Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, is scheduled to meet him at 7:30 PM, followed by Jamaat leaders at 8:30 PM. BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed confirmed the meeting time with the Chief Adviser.

Jamaat-e-Islami will be represented by its Ameer Shafiqur Rahman. Party deputy leader Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher stated that they had requested a meeting to discuss the overall situation, which was granted for tonight. He added that the Jamaat Ameer has called on the Chief Adviser to convene an all-party meeting given the emerging crisis.

On Thursday night, informal discussions were held among leaders of BNP, Jamaat, and other parties, including the National Citizens Party (NCP). It is reported that they reached a consensus to request Dr. Yunus not to resign in order to avoid further political uncertainty. As a continuation, multiple parties have formally requested meetings with the Chief Adviser.

Earlier, Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman issued a statement Thursday night urging Dr. Yunus to call an all-party dialogue. He personally went to Jamuna at 11 AM on Friday but could not meet the Chief Adviser. Another scheduled meeting between Jamaat and Dr. Yunus is set for 6 PM today.

The BNP has demanded the immediate announcement of an electoral roadmap ahead of the upcoming December elections. Without such a plan, the party warns it may be forced to reconsider its cooperation with the interim government. At an emergency press conference held Thursday in Gulshan, BNP’s Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain read out a statement asserting that a transfer of power to an elected government must occur within 2025, calling it the interim government’s core responsibility.

Dr. Mosharraf criticized the government’s reactive approach, claiming that failure to act proactively has damaged both its credibility and effectiveness. He argued that recent actions by the interim government have raised public doubts about its neutrality, and he accused it of serving the political interests of certain groups. He emphasized that maintaining absolute neutrality is essential for preserving national unity, which he believes is now at risk due to emerging fractures in the anti-authoritarian alliance.

Meanwhile, the Chief Adviser is scheduled to preside over a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) today. While advisors usually attend these meetings, no press briefing will follow this session. Dr. Yunus remained at his official residence throughout Friday following a discussion about possible resignation during a Thursday afternoon meeting with his advisors.
