Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, has stated that strict actions will be taken against illegal land grabbers, regardless of their influence. Speaking at a meeting on forest and environmental conservation in Gazipur on Saturday (December 28), she emphasized that efforts will be made to resist forest land encroachment. She assured that strong steps will be taken to protect forest lands and the environment. The district administration has been instructed to expedite the process of demarcating forest boundaries. Out of 90 acres of forest land illegally occupied in Gazipur since August 5, 16 acres have already been reclaimed, with plans to recover the rest within the next three months. Additionally, steps will be taken to curb deforestation and industrial pollution. Before granting environmental clearances, all aspects must be reviewed, and public opinion must be considered during renewals. The event was chaired by Gazipur’s Deputy Commissioner Nafisa Arefin, with the participation of local police, military security units, forest and environmental officials, and representatives from environmental organizations.
