A shooting incident has taken place at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, leaving at least 10 people dead, according to initial reports.
The attack occurred on Sunday evening local time, creating a tense situation across the city and spreading fear among residents. However, no Bangladeshi expatriates have been reported harmed, and they are said to be safe.
Sources say the shooting began shortly after 6:30 pm at Bondi Beach, where a large gathering was underway for an event marking the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. Hundreds of people were present at the time.
Eyewitnesses reported that police arrived quickly after the incident began. Panic broke out as hundreds of people ran from the beach seeking safety. Witnesses said they heard approximately 50 gunshots.
A local resident, 30-year-old Harry Wilson, said he saw the attack unfold. “I saw at least 10 people lying on the ground. There was blood everywhere. Police launched an immediate operation,” he said.
Emergency medical workers were seen carrying stretchers onto Bondi Beach to rescue the injured. Police sources said two suspects have been detained in connection with the incident. Another gunman was reportedly injured after being shot by police.
Law enforcement agencies are continuing operations in the Bondi Beach area and have urged the public to avoid the location and follow official instructions.
Despite widespread fear across Sydney, there have been no reports of casualties among Bangladeshi expatriates. Authorities are working swiftly to bring the situation under control.
