Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has called for the main suspects in the killing of Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, convenor of the Inqilab Manch, to be brought back to Bangladesh and prosecuted if they are currently abroad. He also stressed the need to determine whether the murder was part of a larger, premeditated conspiracy.
Shafiqur Rahman made the remarks in a post published on his verified Facebook page on Saturday night.
In the post, the Jamaat chief said the death of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi—whom he described as a beloved young activist and a trusted companion in street movements—continues to cause deep pain and anger. He said the loss of such a promising life has created a void that cannot be filled. He expressed concern that despite the submission of a charge sheet, the key accused in what he termed a brutal killing remain beyond the reach of the law, raising legitimate public questions about the effectiveness and accountability of law enforcement agencies.
Calling for decisive action, Shafiqur Rahman said there should be no ambiguity about whether the accused are inside the country or have crossed the border. If they are believed to be in neighboring India or any other country, he said the Bangladeshi government should use bilateral and international diplomatic channels to ensure their swift return and bring them before the courts.
He emphasized that arrests alone would not be sufficient, arguing that investigators must also examine whether there was a broader plot behind the murder. According to him, only a transparent, impartial, and credible investigation can uncover the full truth. Failure to do so, he warned, would further entrench a culture of impunity and deepen public distrust in state institutions and the justice system.
Shafiqur Rahman said honoring the blood of a martyr and ensuring justice is a fundamental constitutional responsibility of the state. He concluded by stating that the sacrifice of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi must not be allowed to go in vain and expressed hope that the government and administration would respect public expectations by taking immediate, visible, and effective action.
