The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a seven-day programme to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day on November 7, featuring rallies across the country, tributes at the grave of former president Ziaur Rahman and discussion meetings.

The announcement came on Monday following a joint meeting of the BNP and its affiliated and associate organisations.

BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the spirit of November 7 had influenced the July uprising, linking the historical observance with more recent political developments in Bangladesh.

Rizvi also warned that people would rise again if what he described as undemocratic rule returned to power.

He further said that anyone attempting to create disorder would face action in accordance with the law.

The seven-day programme will include rallies nationwide, paying respects at Ziaur Rahman’s grave and discussion sessions commemorating the day.

National Revolution and Solidarity Day is observed by the BNP on November 7, a date associated with the political and military upheaval in Bangladesh in 1975.
