Three Sacks of Cannabis Recovered from a Crashed Vehicle in Gazipur

Police from Tongi West Police Station recovered three sacks of cannabis from a crashed Pajero jeep in Tongi, Gazipur. The incident occurred on Thursday morning near the Bata Gate area of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway. With the assistance of locals, the driver of the vehicle was apprehended at the scene. Police reported that the three sacks contained a total of 25 bundles of cannabis, weighing approximately 50 kilograms.
The arrested driver, Khokon Mia (38), is the son of Ahmad Ullah from Kalikapur village under Ramganj Police Station in Lakshmipur district.
Eyewitnesses stated that a Dhaka-bound Pajero jeep (Dhaka Metro-Gha-13-0368) hit a rickshaw near a college gate area and attempted to flee. A motorcyclist pursued the vehicle, which took a U-turn at the Bata Gate area and tried to head back towards Gazipur. While speeding away, the jeep lost control and crashed into a roadside island. Locals detained the driver and informed the police. Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered three sacks containing approximately 50 kilograms of cannabis.
Confirming the incident, NM Nasir Uddin, Deputy Commissioner (Crime South) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said, “We recovered approximately 50 kilograms of cannabis in 25 tape-wrapped packets from the Pajero vehicle and arrested one individual. Legal actions are being taken in this regard.”
