A.K. Shamsuddin: The RHD Lamp That Turned into a Mountain of Corruption
A.K. Shamsuddin Ahmed, Additional Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) and Project Director (PD) of the Mymensingh’s Kewatkhali Bridge construction project, seems to have found Aladdin’s magic lamp. Explosive allegations have surfaced against him regarding massive corruption, irregularities, and bribery, through which he has allegedly amassed hundreds of crores of taka in a very short time. He owns multiple luxurious apartments in the capital’s elite areas, expensive cars, and properties. Looking at his current lavish lifestyle, no one would guess that just a decade ago, such affluence was a distant dream for him.
Family Background: Where It All Began
A closer look into Shamsuddin’s family history reveals that his grandfather, the late Abdur Rob Sikder, raised his family in a small tin-roofed two-story house on New Circular Road in Barishal. Local peoples says that Shamsuddin’s father, Ashrab Ali Sikder, acquired a luxurious 2,600 square-feet flat on Road 5 in Dhanmondi through illegal earnings while in government service. Shamsuddin currently lives there with his family. One of his daughter studying at USA and another daughter studying in BRAC UNIVERSITY . The question arise “how could a government officer maintain cost of this luxurious education?”
However, Shamsuddin has far surpassed his father’s illicit gains. He joined the RHD’s Planning and Design Division in 1999 as an Assistant Engineer. Initially, he struggled to maintain his family on his limited salary, but after becoming the Project Manager of the Dhaka-Chattogram Four-Lane Project in April 2011, his fortunes took a drastic turn. Since then, his wealth has grown to what many now call a mountain of corruption.
The Endless List of Assets: Wherever He Touches Turns to Gold!
A.K. Shamsuddin Ahmed allegedly used his position in RHD to accumulate enormous illegal wealth over the past fifteen years. Preliminary investigations have uncovered shocking details of his assets, including:
Dhanmondi Road 5: A luxurious 2,600 feet flat.
West Dhanmondi (Madhubazar) Road 12/A: Multiple apartments.
Dhanmondi Road 9/A: An apartment under his younger sister’s name.
Mohammadpur (Rayerbazar Zafrabad and Sultanganj): Several apartments registered under relatives’ names.
Dhaka Udyan: A six-story building.
Adabor, Monsurabad, Road 4: A six-story building under his wife Monowara Begum’s name.
Caretakers Expose the Truth: “Sir Has Crores of Taka!”
Shamsuddin’s caretakers have openly confirmed his wealth and corruption. Abdul Karim, who manages some of his properties, said, “Sir has crores of taka, he has more flats in Mohammadpur.” Similarly, the caretaker of the Dhaka Udyan house, Solaiman, confirmed, “The Dhaka Udyan house belongs to Nannu Sir.” These direct eyewitness statements have further strengthened the allegations against Shamsuddin.
It is now crucial to conduct an immediate and impartial investigation into the source of Shamsuddin’s vast wealth and the corruption allegations surrounding him. Such large-scale accumulation of illegal wealth by a person holding a vital government position brings the entire Roads and Highways Department under serious scrutiny.
