BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed optimism that an interim government will hold national elections by February, adding that the country can only progress in the right direction through fair elections. He made these remarks on Monday, July 7, while speaking to reporters after visiting the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) in Sylhet.

During his visit, Fakhrul also attended a prayer event organized by MA Malik, President of UK BNP and adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, seeking good health for Khaleda Zia and acting BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Later in the day, he was scheduled to attend a commemorative event organized by Sylhet District BNP in honor of the families of those killed during the July-August uprising, which BNP describes as a massacre carried out by the “fascist Awami League.”

Mirza Fakhrul arrived in Sylhet at 9:25 AM on a morning flight. After landing, he visited the shrines of both Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R). Central BNP leaders were also expected to join him as special guests in the day’s programs.
