Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, the Local Government, Youth, and Sports Advisor, stated that December 31 will mark the end of “Mujibism.” In a verified Facebook post early Saturday (December 28), he declared that through a proclamation, fascism and “Mujibism” will meet their demise. He further described this as a charter for the liberation of all citizens, irrespective of political, religious, or social divisions, laying the foundation for a new Bangladesh based on equality, human dignity, and social justice.
Leading up to December 31, members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens’ Committee generated widespread speculation with enigmatic slogans on social media. On Saturday evening, this campaign gained momentum, with National Citizens’ Committee Secretary Akhtar Hossain posting, “It will happen this year, December 31. Inshallah!” Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Convener Hasnat Abdullah echoed this with, “Comrades, 31st DECEMBER! Now or Never,” while coordinator Rifat Rashid wrote, “All eyes on December 31, 2024. Now or Never!”
The National Citizens’ Committee spokesperson, Samanta Sharmin, told the media that a “July Proclamation” would be announced at 3 PM at the Central Shaheed Minar on that day, without confirming whether a new political party would be formed.
