An air ambulance hired to take BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to London for treatment has been granted permission to land at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport tomorrow, Tuesday morning.

Group Captain SM Ragib Samad, Executive Director of the airport, confirmed the approval to Prothom Alo earlier today.

Whether Khaleda Zia will be able to travel, however, depends entirely on her health condition. Her personal physician, AJM Zahid Hossain, also said on Saturday that her departure would be decided based on her medical state.

According to Ragib Samad, the air ambulance belongs to Germany-based FAI Aviation Group. It is scheduled to land at 8:20am tomorrow and may leave Dhaka around 9:00pm the same day if necessary.

Civil aviation sources said FAI Aviation had applied last Saturday, seeking permission to land in Dhaka on Tuesday and depart for London on Wednesday.

The BNP leader has been undergoing treatment at Dhaka’s Evercare Hospital for more than two weeks.

A source involved in decisions regarding her medical care and possible travel abroad said last night that doctors have postponed her departure by two more days after reviewing her latest condition. Considering the risks of a long flight, the final decision now depends on how her health changes over the next 24–48 hours. As of last night, her condition had shown no major improvement or deterioration.

A source close to the medical board treating her noted that although her diabetes, kidney, heart, and lung issues are sometimes under control, they can rapidly become unstable again. Recent tests showed slight improvement in her kidney and lung functions, but not enough to reduce overall risk, and doctors say she is still not out of danger.

Due to these uncertainties, the possible travel date keeps changing. Initially, the BNP said she would be flown to London early Friday (5 December). Later that morning the date was moved to 7 December, then shifted again to 9 December.
