The BNP is currently facing intense uncertainty over the upcoming national election, expected to take place sometime between December this year and June next year. While the Chief Adviser and his office have consistently maintained this timeline, the BNP remains unconvinced. To seek a clearer roadmap, the party is set to meet with Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus on Wednesday, April 16, at 12 PM at the state guesthouse Jamuna.
Party leaders say they will decide their strategy based on the outcome of the meeting—whether to prepare for an electoral battle or to launch a movement demanding a precise election timeline. The meeting is seen as crucial for the BNP’s next steps.
Meanwhile, on social media, a segment of citizens has voiced support for Dr. Yunus to remain in power for the next five years—a sentiment echoed by Citizen Party’s Sarjis Alam in a recent post. Adding to the BNP’s discomfort, the Home Adviser has also casually mentioned that many people wish to see the current administration continue, which only deepens BNP’s skepticism—something not addressed in official government statements.
Against this backdrop, the BNP’s Standing Committee has resolved to directly seek clarification from Dr. Yunus on the exact timing of the election in hopes of clearing the air and moving past the current climate of frustration and distrust.
