Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of BNP’s standing committee, has raised concerns about inconsistencies in the final draft of the July Charter. He stated that certain issues in the charter were not accurately presented.
Speaking to a private television channel on Sunday, he said, “There are some discrepancies in the final draft of the July Charter.”
BNP will review the draft and submit its feedback by 20 August.
Yesterday evening, the National Consensus Commission sent the consolidated draft of the July Charter to political parties. The draft states that if any provision conflicts with the current constitution or other laws, the charter’s provisions, recommendations, or proposals will take precedence. It also specifies that no court will be able to question the charter’s validity, necessity, or the authority responsible for issuing it.
The draft also highlights agreed-upon reforms related to the constitution, the election system, the judiciary, public administration, police administration, and anti-corruption measures.
The July Charter draft notes that the National Consensus Commission and various political parties, alliances, and groups reached consensus on these issues through mutual discussion. However, it also acknowledges that not all parties agreed on every issue, and some parties raised objections to certain recommendations.
