Following the victory of Shibir candidates in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall elections, BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas accused the ruling Awami League of secretly aiding Shibir by diverting Chhatra League’s votes.

Speaking as the chief guest at a memorial event for BNP Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al Noman in Chattogram on Wednesday afternoon, Abbas said:

> “Some may say BNP lost the DUCSU election, but I cannot accept that. How did Jamaat’s student wing manage to secure so many votes? The numbers don’t add up. This indicates a deeper conspiracy. When opposition forces sit together, the priority is to resist Awami League. Yet behind the scenes, Shibir has taken away Chhatra League’s votes with Awami League’s tacit consent. Conspiracies are ongoing against BNP both at home and abroad.”

He also portrayed BNP as a party committed to safeguarding the nation’s independence, sovereignty, and security, rejecting allegations of violence by BNP activists after August 5. Abbas argued that Awami League and Jamaat are working together in misconduct while BNP is being unfairly blamed. He added that Tarique Rahman had clearly stated there is no place for extortionists or criminals inside BNP, and action would be taken against anyone who failed to reform.

Addressing the newly elected DUCSU committee, Abbas remarked:

> “Whatever the circumstances of the election, I welcome the new committee. I hope they will work to defend the country’s independence and sovereignty, and guide misguided leaders back to the right path.”

The memorial program was chaired by Chattogram North BNP’s former convener Ghulam Akbar Khondakar and attended by city mayor Shahadat Hossain, former city BNP secretary Abul Hashem, divisional organizing secretary Mahbubur Rahman, former joint convener Abu Sufian, and Noman’s son Saeed Al Noman, among others.

According to the results, Shibir-backed candidates secured 9 of 12 secretary posts in the central body, while independents won the remaining three. Shibir also captured the key positions of VP, GS, and AGS.
