JUCSU Election: Teachers linked to BNP boycott over alleged anomalies

Amid complaints of irregularities and alleged vote-rigging, three teachers aligned with the Pro-BNP forum at Jahangirnagar University stepped down from their roles in the JUCSU election and left their polling stations on Thursday.
Their withdrawal came shortly after the Chhatra Dal-backed student panel also pulled out of the polls, citing similar concerns over fairness.
The teachers — Professor Nahrin Islam Khan (Geography and Environment), Professor Nazrul Islam (Mathematics), and Professor Shamima Sultana (Bangla) — abandoned their assigned centers before 4:00 PM.
Later in the day, they appeared before the university’s Election Commission office and held a press conference to explain their stance.
Professor Nahrin Islam Khan accused the administration of turning a blind eye to widespread misconduct. She said, “The authorities have failed to ensure transparency from the outset. Manipulation and serious irregularities have taken place. As educators, it is against our conscience to remain part of such a compromised process. We therefore reject and protest this election.”
This development adds to the escalating controversy surrounding the JUCSU polls, already criticized for questionable procedures and alleged bias. With both student and teacher representatives withdrawing, doubts over the legitimacy of the election have grown even stronger.
