Bangladesh’s interim government is prepared to hold the national elections in mid-February 2026, according to Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (August 12) during a joint press briefing following his meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya.
Dr. Yunus invited Malaysian businesses to invest in Bangladesh, highlighting the country’s “immense untapped potential.”
On the Rohingya issue, the chief adviser said it remains a major challenge for Bangladesh and called for the support of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in finding a solution.
Earlier in the morning, Dr. Yunus met with the Malaysian Prime Minister, during which five memorandums of understanding were signed between the two countries. The agreements were concluded on the first day of Dr. Yunus’s three-day official visit to Malaysia.
