“We are now ready to hand over power to elected representatives. The election schedule has already been announced. This time, the government is working to ensure voting rights for expatriate Bangladeshis,” said the Chief Adviser during a discussion with Bangladeshi expatriates in Kuala Lumpur today.
“I hope this election will bring a new experience — you will all be voters and able to cast your ballots. We have coordinated with the Election Commission, which is making preparations to facilitate this,” he added.
Emphasizing the vital role of expatriates in helping revive the country’s economy from a challenging situation, the Chief Adviser remarked, “The country’s condition has now stabilized considerably. You have contributed significantly to this economic recovery.”
“You are playing a huge role in the economy, and that must be acknowledged. Your voting rights in the upcoming election must be ensured,” he said.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul were also present at the event.
The Chief Adviser noted that since taking office, the government has been engaging with the expatriate community to understand and address their concerns.
“You have many grievances, many of which are legitimate. We have been working continuously to resolve these issues and ease the difficulties you face,” he said.
Regarding passport-related problems, the Chief Adviser said the government has taken swift action to tackle them.
He also announced a new initiative called Citizen Services Bangladesh, which aims to provide all government services to expatriates efficiently.
Additionally, a special mobile app is being developed to connect Bangladeshis worldwide through a single platform.
During the meeting, attendees discussed various matters affecting the Bangladeshi community in Malaysia, such as increasing embassy staff, securing Graduate Plus visas for students, regularizing undocumented migrants, and enhancing cooperation with Malaysian authorities in trade and industry, according to Professor Asif Nazrul.
The event was attended by representatives from diverse professions, organizations, associations, and business communities within the Bangladeshi diaspora in Malaysia.
