Major General (Retd.) Mohammad Kamruzzaman, MBA, an independent director of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and DG of the Army Institute of Business Administration, emphasized that the development of the stock market relies heavily on the inclusion of high-quality companies. He attributed the current challenges in the stock market to the listing of subpar companies in the past and expressed hope for future listings to include companies with solid fundamentals.
Speaking at a workshop on stock market education and awareness for teachers and students of public and private universities, organized by the Army Institute of Business Administration at the DSE Training Academy on Tuesday (November 3), he highlighted the importance of informed investments in the stock market.
Sattik Ahmed Shah, Acting Managing Director of DSE, described the event as a valuable opportunity for participants to gain practical knowledge about the stock market, which could aid their future investments and career prospects.
During the workshop, Syed Al-Amin Rahman, Deputy General Manager of DSE, presented a keynote on various aspects of the stock market, including its fundamentals, current state, growth trajectory, and investment strategies.
In his closing remarks, DSE Director Minhaj Mannan Emon stressed the importance of understanding the “when, where, and why” of investments. He advised against emotional decision-making and encouraged participants to consider company performance, management, and stock valuations before investing.
He also noted that many low-quality IPOs over the past 15 years had negatively impacted the market but assured that steps are being taken to address this issue. Additionally, he pointed out that measures to prevent money laundering have been implemented, which will contribute significantly to the country’s economic progress.
