Dhaka has been gripped by intense winter chills, with dense fog blanketing the city in the early morning. Vehicles on the roads, particularly in areas like Tongi, Uttara, Airport, and Khilkhet, were seen with headlights on due to low visibility. Even as the day progressed, the sun remained obscured.

Jamal, a vegetable vendor in Khilkhet, remarked that this is the coldest day Dhaka has experienced this year. Similarly, a bus driver commuting from Gazipur to Motijheel reported that thick fog reduced visibility to just a few meters, making driving challenging, with most vehicles relying on headlights even in daylight.

According to a morning weather bulletin, Dhaka and its surrounding areas are expected to experience dry weather with moderate to dense fog over the next six hours. Winds may blow from the west or northwest at speeds of 6–12 km/h, with the sky remaining partly cloudy. A 72-hour forecast previously warned that the dense fog might disrupt aviation, riverine transport, and road traffic.

Meteorologists have identified the current fog as “advection fog,” which moves across regions. This particular fog originated in India, passing through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal before entering Bangladesh via the northern regions.

Yesterday, Dhaka recorded a maximum temperature of 20.7°C and a minimum of 15°C. This morning, at 8:45 a.m., the temperature dropped further to 14.2°C.
