After several days of intense and humid heat, Dhaka finally experienced some relief as rain poured over the capital. On Wednesday afternoon, the sky gradually turned cloudy, and by around 3 PM, a downpour accompanied by strong winds swept through the city.

Residents across areas like Azimpur, New Market, Kalabagan, Asad Gate, Mirpur, and Dhanmondi reported rainfall. The refreshing shower brought a much-needed break for city dwellers struggling with the oppressive heat.

Farhana Islam, a resident of Dhanmondi, shared that the recent hot spell had been unbearable, and today’s rain felt like a blessing. Goni Mia, a tea seller in Banglamotor, said the skies darkened after midday, and the rain allowed him to sit back and relax for a while.

Student Mahinur Rahman expressed relief, saying it had become difficult to even step outside in the scorching weather. Salma Akter from Kalabagan mentioned that although she got drenched on her way home from work, the rain lifted her spirits after days of frustration with the heat.

A rickshaw puller described the wind as so strong that it became hard to ride during the storm, but he too was grateful for the break from the heat.

According to the Meteorological Department, the rain will likely cool down nighttime temperatures in Dhaka, offering some comfort to residents. Meanwhile, other parts of the country continue to face high temperatures, with mild heatwaves affecting some regions. A low-pressure system may be forming over the southern Bay of Bengal, with its effects potentially extending into parts of West Bengal and neighboring areas.
