‘The Lanting Legacy’: Weeklong Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition Begins in Dhaka

To mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and China, a weeklong Chinese calligraphy exhibition titled ‘The Lanting Legacy’ has been jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, the Bangladesh-China Friendship Center, and the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka. The exhibition opened on Tuesday, April 29, at 3:30 PM at the Nalinikanta Bhattasali Exhibition Hall of the National Museum in Shahbagh. Present at the inauguration were Mr. Sun Kangning, Cultural Officer of the Chinese Embassy, and H.M. Jahangir Alam Rana, Secretary General of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Center. In his speech, Mr. Sun expressed that this was the first time they were organizing such an exhibition in Bangladesh. Although the event was prepared in a rush and lacked captions for the artworks, he hoped visitors would still find aesthetic pleasure in the calligraphy. Mr. Rana highlighted the 3,000-year-old history of Chinese calligraphy, noting that it is created using brush, ink, pen, and paper, and that this marks the first such cultural collaboration of its kind. Also in attendance were calligraphy enthusiasts like Liu Chen, Ko Tahai, and Hu Song, along with representatives from the Friendship Center and the Confucius Institute.
