Army to Begin Shubhadhya Canal Restoration in June

To reduce costs, the Bangladesh Army will undertake the excavation of the Shubhadhya Canal in Keraniganj, according to Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan. The one-year project, with an estimated budget of Tk 317 crore, is scheduled to begin this June. Speaking during a visit to the canal area in South Keraniganj on Monday, May 12, she noted that in many places the canal has virtually disappeared, buried under waste and encroachment, making restoration a significant challenge. The adviser urged local residents to remain aware and involved in efforts to restore and clean the canal. In response to a question about waterlogging in Dhaka, she mentioned that both city corporations have already begun work on improving the city’s drainage system ahead of the monsoon season.
