Less than a month remains until Eid-ul-Adha, and the two city corporations of Dhaka have begun preparations to set up cattle markets in the capital. This year, 19 temporary markets will be established—10 in Dhaka North and 9 in Dhaka South—according to open tenders recently announced. The cattle trading will run for five days, including the three days before Eid, with authorities promising tight security measures. Two previously used sites, Aftabnagar and Meradia, have been excluded from the list due to court restrictions. In Dhaka North, locations such as Gabtoli (the permanent market), Bosila, Mirpur, Khilkhet, and Badda are among the designated areas. In Dhaka South, markets will be set up at spots like the vacant field of the Shahjahanpur Maitree Sangha Club and Sadeque Hossain Khoka field. Officials from both corporations have assured that the tender process will be transparent and that lessees will face strict action if they violate regulations, including sanitation rules. The second round of tenders will remain open until May 27, after which the highest bidders will be selected. Authorities are also emphasizing waste management and will monitor cleanup efforts closely throughout the market period.
