Former MP’s Post-Arrest Remand in Rauf Murder Case

A former Member of Parliament for Dhaka-10 and ex-president of FBCCI, Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, has been granted a three-day remand in connection with the death of a youth named Rauf during an anti-discrimination student protest in the Uttara West police station area. On Thursday (January 9), Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain approved the remand after a hearing. The investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Al Mahmood Sharif of Uttara West Police, had requested a 10-day remand. Public Prosecutor Omar Farooq Faruqi supported the remand, while defense lawyer Barrister Imtiaz Moinul Islam Milli requested the cancellation of the remand and bail for the accused. On Wednesday (January 8), Shafiul was arrested from his residence in Sector 4, Uttara. Rauf was killed by gunfire in Uttara West’s Sector 7 during the protests, and Rauf’s brother, Shakib Hasan, filed a case against Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin on January 8.
