Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has stated that efforts are underway to ensure the voting rights of expatriate Bangladeshis in the upcoming 13th National Election, calling for cooperation from political parties to make it possible. Speaking to the media on Tuesday (April 29) after a meeting at the Election Commission building with stakeholders, including political parties, he emphasized that guaranteeing this right is a commitment of the Election Commission (EC) and a demand from many. He noted that all relevant socioeconomic and educational factors will be carefully reviewed before making a final decision. However, Nasir Uddin made it clear that regardless of the system the EC adopts, the support of political parties is crucial for implementing expatriate voting, even if initially on a limited scale. He added that public trust and cost-effective implementation must guide the chosen method. Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanaullah also remarked that a hybrid model—utilizing multiple methods—may be necessary to include expatriates in the electoral process.
