Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that those involved in the brutal murder of businessman Sohag in front of Dhaka’s Mitford Hospital are being brought under the law. Speaking to reporters on Saturday afternoon (July 12) after visiting the Dhaka District Police Line and Traffic & Driving School at Mill Barrack in Old Dhaka, he emphasized that the justice process may be slow, but law enforcement agencies are not inactive. He noted that the responsibility of arresting the suspects lies with the Home Ministry, while ensuring punishment is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Law. He added that law enforcement is now more active than in the past, and five suspects have already been arrested in connection with the murder. He also urged the public not to take the law into their own hands. The incident, which occurred on July 9 around 6 PM near Gate 3 of Mitford Hospital, involved Sohag being beaten inside the hospital gate and then dragged outside, where he was hacked and fatally struck with a large stone. A video of the gruesome killing circulated widely on social media, triggering widespread outrage.
