Government Committed to Strengthening Bilateral Relations, Says Prime Minister Tarique Rahman
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has emphasized the government’s commitment to reinforcing relationships with countries around the world based on mutual respect, trust, and cooperation. Speaking at an iftar reception held in honor of diplomats at the state guesthouse Jamuna State Guesthouse on Friday evening, he stated that Bangladesh consistently places high importance on both bilateral and multilateral relations.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said, “We believe prosperity is built through cooperation and engagement, not isolation.” His remarks were shared with the press by his spokesperson Saleh Shibli.
The event was attended by ambassadors and representatives from foreign missions in Dhaka, members of the cabinet, and parliamentarians.
Highlighting the broader purpose of the iftar, the Prime Minister noted that the event serves as a reminder of the significance of mutual respect, empathy, and unity among people of different nations, religions, and cultures—values that form the foundation of a peaceful and tolerant society.
He outlined that his government will pursue a prudent liberalization policy, improve the business environment, and foster competitive conditions to attract responsible investment. “Our goal is to unlock the full potential of our citizens and the private sector,” he added.
Rahman further emphasized that Bangladesh’s foreign policy will be guided by pragmatism and sustainability, built on shared interests, trust, and sovereignty, while valuing both bilateral and multilateral partnerships. “In the coming years, we remain open to dialogue and stronger cooperation,” he said.
On domestic priorities, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s focus on ensuring law and order, maintaining overall economic stability, and promoting human resource development through training, skill enhancement, and capacity building at all levels of society.
He also stressed that the government is committed to encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation through liberal economic policies and will strengthen public-private partnerships as a key driver of growth.
Pointing to the country’s potential, Rahman said, “Our aim is to build a diversified, technology-driven, and sustainable economy that will create employment for the youth, empower women, promote entrepreneurship, and ensure prosperity for all.”
The Prime Minister outlined initiatives to expand technical and vocational education, introduce a third language in the curriculum, and enhance preventive healthcare in rural areas, ensuring that the benefits of growth reach all corners of the country.
Regarding democracy, Rahman remarked, “We recognize that public trust relies on transparency and integrity. We will take strong action against corruption at all levels. Democracy for us is not limited to the ballot box—it includes inclusion, transparency, and ongoing dialogue.”
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, upholding the rule of law, protecting independence, and ensuring accountability. “We are equally dedicated to safeguarding human rights, freedom of expression, and cultivating a culture of tolerance and pluralism,” he said.
The Prime Minister announced plans to gradually implement family cards and farmer cards to provide targeted social and economic support to women and agricultural workers.
On environmental issues, he highlighted Bangladesh’s dedication to building climate resilience and advancing sustainable development through constructive cooperation with global partners.
During the event, Prime Minister Rahman also expressed support for Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman as Bangladesh’s candidate for the presidency of the 81st United Nations General Assembly for the 2026–27 session.
The program featured remarks from Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obayed Islam, and the Prime Minister’s foreign policy advisor Humayun Kabir.
