Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus is set to attend the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, from January 20 to 24. He will depart Dhaka at 1:00 AM on Monday and return on January 25. During the visit, Dr. Yunus will meet with the heads of state from Germany, England, Belgium, and Thailand, as well as other key figures on the sidelines. A dialogue on Bangladesh will be held, encouraging these nations to invest in the country.
Azad Mozumder, the Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, provided these details at a briefing on Sunday evening at the Foreign Service Academy. He added that Dr. Yunus’s delegation will be small, focusing primarily on security personnel, along with special envoy Lutfe Siddiqi. A business delegation will also attend at their own expense.
Meanwhile, members of the Commission on Enforced Disappearances met Dr. Yunus at State Guesthouse Jamuna on Sunday. They shared chilling accounts of disappearances, including cases involving children as young as six years old, and urged him to visit the notorious Joint Interrogation Cell, known as “Aynaghar.” Dr. Yunus expressed his intent to visit and described the findings as deeply disturbing.
Separately, Acting Australian High Commissioner Nardia Simpson bid farewell to Dr. Yunus, recalling key events from July and August and discussing bilateral issues. Dr. Yunus invited her to attend the first anniversary of the July Revolution in August this year.
In another meeting, Dr. Yunus urged Argentina to transform the emotional bond over football into trade and bilateral cooperation. Argentine Ambassador Marcelo Cesa highlighted untapped areas of potential collaboration between the two countries. SDG Coordinator Lamia Morshed was also present during the discussion.
