Despite declining indices, trading improves at DSE

On Monday, the second trading day of the week, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), Bangladesh’s primary stock market, experienced a continued decline in indices as the majority of stocks saw price drops. However, trading turnover increased slightly compared to the previous day. Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also saw a decline in indices, though its turnover improved.
At the DSE, fluctuations in stock prices persisted throughout the day. By the close of trading, the DSEX, the main index, fell by 2.32 points or 0.04%, settling at 5,130.05. The Shariah Index (DSES) decreased by 0.74 points or 0.06% to 1,150.17, while the DS30 Index dropped by 0.95 points or 0.05%, ending at 1,894.80. The day’s turnover at the DSE amounted to Tk 344.03 crore, up from Tk 318.45 crore in the previous session, marking an increase of Tk 25.57 crore. A total of 12.22 crore shares were traded through 118,915 transactions. Of the 399 companies and mutual funds traded, prices rose for 140, fell for 178, and remained unchanged for 81.
Malek Spinning Mills PLC led the turnover with shares worth Tk 11.15 crore, followed by Beach Hatchery Limited with Tk 10.01 crore, Dragon Sweater & Spinning Limited with Tk 9.69 crore, Khulna Printing & Packaging Limited with Tk 7.21 crore, and ADN Telecom Limited with Tk 7.19 crore. Others included Orion Infusions Limited (Tk 6.54 crore), Central Pharmaceuticals Limited (Tk 6.23 crore), and Taufika Foods & Lovello Ice Cream PLC (Tk 5.97 crore).
Sharp Industries PLC topped the gainers list with a 9.84% rise in share prices. Other notable gainers included Premier Cement Mills PLC (5.33%), Asiatic Laboratories Limited (5.31%), and Hakkani Pulp & Paper Mills Limited (4.48%).
At the CSE, the CSCX Index dropped by 19.53 points or 0.22% to close at 8,737.27, while the CASPI Index fell by 29.78 points or 0.20% to 14,353.71. Shares of 189 companies were traded, with 64 gaining, 105 losing, and 20 remaining unchanged. The day’s turnover at the CSE was Tk 32.02 crore, a significant rise from Tk 12.88 crore in the previous session.
