With a continuous nine-day holiday for Eid celebrations, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has devised a special security plan to prevent crimes such as theft, robbery, and mugging. Nearly 15,000 police personnel will be deployed across the city, with checkpoints set up on roads and increased patrols in shopping centers and residential areas. The newly recruited “Auxiliary Force” will also assist the police in maintaining law and order.

As of Saturday, March 29, the Eid holidays have officially begun. However, due to the Independence Day and Shab-e-Qadr holidays, many people had already left Dhaka, making the city relatively empty and traffic noticeably lighter.

To ensure security during this extended holiday period, law enforcement agencies are maintaining a strong presence before and after Eid. The DMP has announced that nighttime police patrols will be increased, and security at bus terminals, launch stations, and railway stations will be tightened. Special teams will be deployed to apprehend muggers, robbers, and members of crime syndicates like “Ojon Party” and “Molom Party.” A total of 15,000 police officers will be on duty to ensure safety in Dhaka, and citizens can contact emergency services through the national helpline 999 if needed.

At a press conference on March 27, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nasimul Gani, assured that despite the long holiday, police officers are not on leave, ensuring that security measures remain intact.

DMP’s Deputy Commissioner (Media Division), Muhammad Talebur Rahman, stated that currently, 667 patrol teams are operating across the capital, with plans to increase their numbers if necessary. The police will maintain a constant security presence to create a deterrent effect, ensuring that criminals do not feel emboldened to commit offenses. As a result, Dhaka residents can celebrate Eid with peace of mind.
