Gazipur Police Commissioner to Face Show-Cause Notice: Home Adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Md Nazmul Karim Khan will be served with a show-cause notice over allegations of blocking roads during his daily commute.

The adviser made the statement during a press briefing at the Home Ministry on Monday, following a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order.

When asked about complaints that the GMP commissioner’s movement was causing public suffering, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said the matter had been formally discussed and that the commissioner would be asked to explain why he closed roads on his way to the office.

Reward Declared for Recovery of Looted Arms

At the same press conference, the home adviser announced cash rewards for information leading to the recovery of firearms and ammunition stolen during the recent student–citizen uprising. The bounty list includes:

Tk 50,000 for each pistol or shotgun

Tk 100,000 for a Chinese rifle

Tk 150,000 for an SMG

Tk 500,000 for an LMG

Tk 500 for each bullet

He assured that the identities of informants will be kept confidential, stressing that efforts are underway to recover as many weapons as possible before the upcoming election.

Other Issues Raised by the Adviser

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said corruption in recruitment is being closely monitored and urged the public to report any irregularities. According to him, no such cases have been reported over the past year.

He warned against people misusing his name for extortion, adding that anyone caught doing so should be exposed by the media.

On cross-border matters, he stated that Bangladesh will seek Interpol’s help to bring back a police officer accused in the Abu Sayeed murder case, who is currently detained in India.

The adviser acknowledged that mob violence has not been fully eliminated but claimed it has decreased significantly.

Finally, he emphasized that a peaceful and festive election is the nation’s expectation, as stressed by the chief adviser, and assured that every step will be taken to achieve that goal.
