India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended warm congratulations to Tarique Rahman, the chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), following the party’s decisive victory in Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary election.

In a post shared on his verified Facebook page at 9:35 a.m. on Friday, Modi congratulated Rahman for leading his party to a clear win in the national polls. He tagged both Rahman and the BNP’s official Facebook page in his message.

Voting for the 13th parliamentary election and referendum concluded on Thursday. According to unofficial results available around 10:40 a.m. Friday, the BNP and its allies secured 182 seats, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its partners won 69 seats.

In his message, Modi stated that the victory reflects the confidence and trust of the Bangladeshi people in Rahman’s leadership. He also reaffirmed India’s continued support for a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh.

The Indian Prime Minister further expressed his interest in working closely with Rahman to strengthen bilateral ties and advance shared development goals between the two neighboring countries.
