National Consensus Commission Vice Chair Professor Dr. Ali Riaz stated that the Chief Adviser is being updated daily on the topics discussed, and all meetings are being held in accordance with his directives. On Tuesday, April 22, the commission resumed talks with the BNP at the LD Hall of the Parliament complex to gather opinions on reform proposals submitted by five different commissions.
Before the meeting, Dr. Riaz remarked that the country is currently at a historic juncture. He added that the commission would also hold discussions with the respective commissions that submitted the reform suggestions. He expressed hope that the initial phase of discussions with the BNP would conclude that day.
He further mentioned that 35 parties have submitted reform proposals so far, and talks have already been held with 15 parties, including the BNP. A second round of discussions is planned to begin in May with various political groups.
This marked the third day of talks between the National Consensus Commission and the BNP. Previously, meetings were held on April 17 and 20 with a five-member BNP delegation led by Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed. The BNP had officially submitted its reform proposals on March 23.
Following the ousting of the Awami League government on August 5, the interim government formed 11 commissions in two phases to initiate state reforms. The National Consensus Commission, led by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, officially began its activities on February 15, with the aim of forming a national consensus based on the commissions’ recommendations.
