Dhaka 5th Among Most Polluted Cities Today

India’s capital, Delhi, topped the list of the world’s 125 most polluted cities on Sunday, according to data from IQAir. The city’s air quality index (AQI) score was 378, categorized as “very unhealthy.” Pakistan’s Lahore ranked second with an AQI score of 319, also marked as “very unhealthy,” while Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, secured the third spot with a score of 197, classified as “unhealthy.”
India’s Kolkata ranked fourth with a score of 184, and Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, took fifth place with a score of 183. Both cities’ air quality levels were deemed “unhealthy.”
The live air quality index, updated on the Swiss-based IQAir website, provides real-time information on air pollution levels, helping individuals understand how clean or polluted the air is in a specific city. According to IQAir’s guidelines, an AQI score of 51-100 is “moderate” or “acceptable,” while 101-150 is considered “unhealthy for sensitive groups.” Scores between 151-200 are labeled “unhealthy,” 201-300 “very unhealthy,” and anything above 300 is deemed “hazardous.”
IQAir advised residents of Dhaka, particularly sensitive groups, to wear masks outdoors and avoid outdoor exercise to minimize exposure to the polluted air.
