In a move to strengthen trade ties and seek balanced tariff cooperation, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Commerce has sent an official letter to Jameson Greer, the U.S. Trade Representative in Dhaka, requesting improved access for Bangladeshi products to the U.S. market. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday (April 8) at the Secretariat, Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin expressed optimism that the initiative may lead to a favorable response regarding tariff reductions by the United States.
He stated that if the U.S. grants duty-free access to an additional 100 Bangladeshi products, it would significantly benefit the country’s exports. The letter, which was sent on April 7 in the evening, also reaffirmed Bangladesh’s openness to address any barriers that might hinder U.S. exports to Bangladesh through dialogue and cooperation.
Currently, 190 U.S. products enjoy duty-free or low-tariff entry into Bangladesh, and the government is considering expanding this list by another 100 items.
