BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has reaffirmed the party’s pledge to fully implement the July Charter, expressing optimism that a formal signing will take place soon.
Speaking to reporters on Friday (August 1) in Chattogram following a courtesy meeting with Haathazari Madrasa’s chief Sheikh Ahmed and its Director General Mufti Khalil Ahmed Qasemi, Salahuddin said, “We have committed to carrying out the July Charter. We believe it will be signed in the near future.”
He also stated that out of the 826 recommendations made by the National Consensus Commission, the BNP has reservations about only 51. “On all other matters, there is broad agreement,” he noted, adding that the party has completed all necessary preparations for implementing the charter.
BNP leader Nazrul Islam Khan, also a standing committee member, said the party sees no obstacles to holding national elections by February next year. “We hope the government will soon provide a clear roadmap on the elections,” he added.
Earlier in the day, senior BNP leaders visited the grave of former Hefazat-e-Islam leader Maulana Shah Ahmad Shafi to pay their respects.
