While the village was asleep after a long day, unidentified miscreants struck in the dead of night at a member’s residence in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia district. It was midnight on May 16, 2025, when flames erupted and engulfed three houses, reducing them to ashes. Cries of children, the wailing of a mother, and the panic-stricken voices of villagers echoed through the night. Since then, Abdus Sattar, the owner of the house and a local union member, has been in a state of shock.
The devastating fire broke out in Moshoora village at the home of Member Abdus Sattar, causing an estimated loss of around Tk 2 million. Fortunately, there were no casualties as the residents managed to escape the blaze just in time.
According to Sattar, the fire began in one of the rooms and quickly spread to two others. Despite efforts by villagers to control the fire, the flames had already consumed everything before help could arrive.
Sattar said, “We are not directly accusing anyone as we do not know who started the fire. We’re living in fear and still haven’t recovered from the trauma.”
When contacted, the Officer-in-Charge of Daulatpur Police Station stated that no formal complaint had been filed, though they are aware of the incident. “If a written complaint is submitted, we will take appropriate action,” he added.
Meanwhile, both local elites and common villagers have demanded that those responsible be brought to justice swiftly. They warned that if such acts go unpunished, the community could spiral into lawlessness and disorder.
