The Election Commission has proposed that fugitive accused persons be declared ineligible for elections. The matter came up during a press briefing by Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Thursday afternoon at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, following a meeting of the Advisory Council.

At the same meeting, approval was given to the Private Participation–Based Renewable Energy Commercial Power Generation Policy 2025.

The council also cleared the Telecommunication Network and Licensing Policy 2025. At the start of the press conference, the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on Post, Telecommunications, and ICT, Faiz Ahmad Tayyeb, briefed journalists in detail about the new policy.

According to him, the updated framework will replace the existing licensing system dominated by middlemen. It aims to ensure quality services in the telecom sector, expand competitive business practices, and gradually bring both voice calls and internet data within the purchasing power of the general public.
