BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused the Awami League of systematically destroying all major institutions in Bangladesh over the past 15 years. Speaking at an event at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Saturday, June 21, he alleged that the ruling party has looted and laundered large amounts of money abroad. Fakhrul referred to reports of substantial deposits in Swiss bank accounts, which he said revealed the extent of corruption under what he called a fascist regime. According to him, the country’s electoral system, state structure, and bureaucracy have all been damaged, and efforts are now underway to rebuild these systems through the initiatives of an interim government.

Referring to a recent London meeting, Fakhrul expressed renewed hope for building a new Bangladesh, particularly after agreements were reportedly reached between Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Tarique Rahman. He believes this cooperation offers a path forward to fulfill the people’s aspirations through future elections.

Highlighting the sacrifices made by students and citizens, Fakhrul said that Bangladesh has made initial progress toward establishing a democratic system. He emphasized that the BNP has already presented a 31-point framework for reform and that the united opposition is now taking steps to rebuild the country.

Regarding ongoing reforms, Fakhrul mentioned that the alliance partners who have been leading the joint movement will need to continue working together to meet public expectations. He noted that while most reform proposals have gained consensus, those still under debate can be finalized in the future parliament.

Fakhrul also welcomed the registration application of the newly formed NCP party, expressing high expectations for their youthful leadership and potential contribution to achieving national goals.

He concluded by expressing hope that all anti-fascist political forces will work together to support the interim government in the process of reshaping the country.
