DUCSU Candidate Calls for Drug Tests for All Participants

Dhaka, Sunday, August 24, 2025 – AB Zubayer, candidate for the Social Welfare Secretary position from a four-member partial panel in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, has demanded that all election candidates undergo drug testing.

Zubayer made the announcement during a press conference held at Madhur Canteen on the Dhaka University campus around 11:30 AM on Sunday.

At the conference, he outlined several proposals aimed at improving the election process for students:

1. Set up polling stations in the laboratories for students of Bir Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, Kobi Jasim Uddin Hall, and Sheikh Mujib Hall.

2. Establish polling centers at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research for students of Kuwait-Maitree Hall and Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall.

3. Take action against candidates who have violated election codes of conduct from nomination collection to the present.

4. Allow voting using any valid university ID card rather than assigning specific IDs.

5. Permit candidates to use nicknames along with their official names on ballots.

6. Include photos alongside names and ballot numbers on ballot papers.

7. Protect female candidates from harassment and cyberbullying on social media.

8. Ensure that candidates with drug addiction cannot be elected by implementing mandatory drug testing.

During the event, Ashik Khan, candidate for the central member position, raised concerns about security, saying that outsiders are still using the campus as if it were a park, and that no effective action has been taken by the administration. He also noted that teachers involved in past campus violence remain in their positions and may oversee the upcoming elections, calling for their immediate accountability.

Other candidates present at the press conference included Musaddiq Ali Ibne Muhammad (Central Literature & Culture Secretary), Abdur Rahman Al Fahad (Central Member), and Ashik Khan (Member).
