Cameron Bancroft suffered a severe collision with teammate Daniel Sams during a Big Bash League match while attempting a catch. The impact caused Bancroft to sustain a broken nose and a dislocated shoulder, sidelining him for an extended period. Both players also suffered head injuries from the collision, leading to concussion substitutions. While Sams’ injury is less severe, he is expected to miss around 12 days and up to four matches. Unfortunately, Bancroft’s season is over, and it is likely his participation in the current domestic season in Australia is also finished.
The Sydney Thunder manager commented on their resilience, stating, “Both players are mentally tough. Bancroft, in particular, was playing exceptionally well before the incident, watching every ball intently in the previous game.”
