Ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League Round of 16 clash against Atlético Madrid on Tuesday, March 4, the Brazilian forward addressed the media. When asked about his absence from last year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, he broke his silence, saying, “I did what my club asked me to do. They wanted me to stay in Madrid, so I stayed. No problem at all. We are now focusing on what’s ahead.”

Regarding his reaction to missing out on the award, Vinícius admitted, “I never dreamed of winning the Ballon d’Or, but of course, when you get so close, you want it.
