During Saturday night’s (May 3) La Liga match between Barcelona and Real Valladolid, an unusual protest unfolded in the stands. Just 12 minutes into the game, fans began throwing fake €500 notes onto the pitch while chanting “Ronaldo go home.” This was not aimed at Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, but rather Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazário, who owns a majority stake in Real Valladolid, having bought the club in 2018 for €30 million. The protest, entirely symbolic, featured around 60,000 fake notes bearing Ronaldo’s image and the phrase “Ronaldo Go Home” printed on them. The action disrupted the match briefly as ground staff struggled to clear the pitch. Fans expressed their frustration at the club’s relegation, essentially suggesting Ronaldo return the amount he paid for ownership. Despite the chaotic scene, Barcelona went on to win the match 2-1.
