Bangladesh team’s new spin bowling coach is former Pakistani spinner Mushtaq Ahmed. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) informed this in a press release today.

He will join the team in the preparation camp for the 5-match T20 series against Zimbabwe this month. Pakistan’s World Cup-winning former leg spinner will be in charge of the Bangladesh team’s spin department until the T20 World Cup to be held in the West Indies and the United States.

53-year-old Mushtaq was in charge of England’s spin bowling coach from 2008 to 2014. Became bowling consultant for Pakistan in 2014.

Mushtaq, who held this position until May 2016, became West Indies’ assistant coach and spin bowling consultant in 2018. In June 2020, he served as the spin bowling coach of the Pakistan team during the tour of England.

Experienced coach Mushtaq, who has taken 185 wickets in 52 Tests and 161 wickets in 144 ODIs for Pakistan, said about the responsibility of the spinners of the Bangladesh team, “It is a great honor to be a part of the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin bowling coach.” I am looking forward to take responsibility. I want to spread my experience among the players. Because, Bangladeshi cricketers can be taught and I always believe, they are one of the most dangerous team. They can beat any team, they have that ability, they have the capital, they have the talent. I want to give this belief to them too. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the Bangladesh team.

Before this, the last spin bowling coach of the Bangladesh team was former Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath. Former spin coach Herath, who took over in November 2021, had a two-year contract that ended in November last year. Herath officially departed in the first Test of the latest series against New Zealand in Sylhet. Later BCB offered a new day contract but Herath did not show interest in it.
