After three consecutive price cuts, the price of gold has once again been increased in Bangladesh. According to the latest decision, the new rates will take effect from Wednesday, March 5, while the price of silver remains unchanged.
On Tuesday evening, March 4, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced the price hike, raising the cost of 22-carat gold by Tk 3,557 per bhori (11.664 grams). As per the revised rates, 22-carat gold will now cost Tk 151,900 per bhori, 21-carat gold will be priced at Tk 144,995 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 124,280 per bhori, and gold following the traditional method will be available for Tk 102,375 per bhori.
BAJUS also stated that the selling price of gold will include a mandatory 5% government VAT along with a minimum 6% wage set by BAJUS, though making charges may vary depending on the jewelry’s design and craftsmanship.
Previously, on March 1, BAJUS had adjusted gold prices, lowering the cost of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,624 per bhori, setting the price at Tk 148,343. At that time, 21-carat gold was priced at Tk 141,601 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 121,376 per bhori, and traditional-method gold at Tk 99,890 per bhori, with these rates effective from March 2.
So far this year, gold prices have been adjusted 12 times in the country—nine times with an increase and only three times with a decrease. In 2024, BAJUS had revised gold prices 62 times, raising them 35 times while lowering them 27 times.
Despite the gold price hike, silver prices remain unchanged. The current rates are Tk 2,578 per bhori for 22-carat silver, Tk 2,449 for 21-carat, Tk 2,111 for 18-carat, and Tk 1,586 per bhori for traditional-method silver.
