Stock Market Trading Declines on Final Working Day

On the last trading day of the week before Eid ul-Fitr, the stock market experienced a mixed trend in indices. On Thursday, trading declined on both major exchanges, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE). According to sources from both exchanges, the DSE’s main index, DSEX, rose by four points to close at 5,219. Meanwhile, the other two indices showed mixed movements: the Shariah index increased by one point, while the DSE-30 index fell by three points, settling at 1,168 and 1,914 points, respectively.
On the DSE, shares and mutual funds worth 315 crore 9 lakh taka were traded, marking a decrease of 71 crore taka compared to the previous session, which saw a trading volume of 386 crore 47 lakh taka. A total of 397 companies had their shares and mutual fund units traded on the DSE, with 178 companies seeing price increases, 148 seeing price decreases, and 71 remaining unchanged.
The top 10 traded companies on the DSE included Beximco Pharma, Orion Infusion, Shinepukur Ceramics, Bich Hatchery, Lovello Ice Cream, S. Alam Steel, Uttara Bank, Square Pharma, Eastern Bank, and AB Bank First Mutual Fund.
On the CSE, the overall index, CASPI, increased by 16 points to close at 14,541. A total of 177 companies saw shares changing hands, with 74 showing price increases, 73 showing decreases, and 33 remaining unchanged. Trading on the CSE amounted to 7 crore 13 lakh taka, which is nearly 13 crore taka less than the previous day’s trading volume of 20 crore 30 lakh taka.
