The interim government has decided to set up a land-based LNG terminal to ensure a smooth supply of gas to the country’s factories. Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, stated that the terminal will be established soon. Speaking to reporters in Doha on Thursday, Shafiqul Alam mentioned that many investors had expressed concerns about their inability to set up factories due to gas shortages. As a result, the government aims to build the terminal quickly to facilitate the import of sufficient gas from abroad.

He also noted that discussions about this plan took place between the Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, and Qatar Energy during Yunus’s visit to Doha. Shafiqul Alam emphasized that the terminal will soon be operational to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to industrial plants across Bangladesh.

Regarding the Chief Adviser’s trip to Doha, the Press Secretary described it as highly successful and significant, calling it “one of the most successful and remarkable visits.” He expressed hope that the visit would enhance Bangladesh’s global reputation and encourage foreign investors to consider Bangladesh as an investment destination.

Highlighting the economic progress under the interim government, Shafiqul Alam said that while the previous administration had left behind $3.2 billion in debt, the interim government has reduced it to $600 million. He added that the remaining debt is expected to be cleared within a few months, signaling to the world that Bangladesh is ready for business.

Following the conclusion of his four-day trip, Professor Yunus was scheduled to depart from Doha to Rome on Friday to attend the funeral of Pope Francis.
