From now on, students in Bangladesh will no longer need prior approval from the central bank to send tuition fees abroad for enrolling in language courses. On Thursday (May 22), Bangladesh Bank issued a circular confirming this regulatory change. According to the new guideline, enrolling in language programs overseas will not require a bachelor’s degree as a prerequisite. Under the existing rules, banks were authorized to release foreign currency for students enrolling in recognized foreign institutions for bachelor’s, postgraduate, or prerequisite language and professional diploma/certificate courses. With this update, students can now directly send fees for language programs through banks. Industry insiders note that such courses often serve as a gateway to employment abroad, especially in countries like Japan, where a certified language course significantly boosts job prospects. Since recruiting agencies are not required in this process, the change is expected to broaden employment opportunities for Bangladeshis overseas.
