BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that the most meaningful way to honour those who lost their lives in the past 15 years—including during the July Uprising—is to actively pursue the goals for which they sacrificed themselves.

Speaking as the chief guest at a commemorative discussion titled “Anti-Fascist Movement and My Untold Stories”, Tarique Rahman remarked, “True tribute to the martyrs comes not through words alone but by working to realise the very dreams that led them to the streets. That is the only way to truly honour their sacrifices.”

The event, held at the Institution of Engineers in Dhaka, was organised by Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal in observance of the July Uprising anniversary. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spoke as the keynote speaker, alongside other senior party leaders. Jubo Dal President Monayem Munna chaired the session, while General Secretary Nurul Islam Nayan served as moderator.

In his remarks, Tarique Rahman emphasized that the people of Bangladesh now expect action, not just rhetoric. “People are no longer moved by slogans or statements. They want results, change, and delivery on promises,” he said. “BNP is committed to offering well-structured plans that will uplift lives and meet the expectations of the masses.”

He went on to outline BNP’s policy priorities, including accessible primary healthcare, quality education, employment generation, environmental sustainability, and support for small and medium enterprises.

Highlighting the employment challenges facing the youth, he noted, “A large segment of our population is young, and while not all of them are unemployed, a concerning number of jobless youth are educated. BNP is working to address this gap with a pragmatic and responsive education system.”

The BNP leader also discussed his party’s plans to boost local production through e-commerce. “We are working to bring products from small and cottage industries into the digital marketplace. This initiative will help expand local manufacturing and provide new opportunities for entrepreneurs.”

As part of the programme, the families of 78 Jubo Dal members who were killed during the July Uprising were recognised and honoured. Additionally, six martyred activists received posthumous tributes. Awards were also distributed to the top 50 participants of a children’s art competition held to mark the occasion.
