Committee Formed to Investigate Secretariat Fire Source

The government has formed a seven-member investigation committee to probe the fire incident at Building No. 7 of the Secretariat in Dhaka. According to an official order issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday, the committee will investigate the origins and causes of the fire, which occurred around 2:30 am on Wednesday night.

 

The committee comprises representatives from the Public Security Division, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, the Local Government Division, and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, all of whom will hold ranks of joint secretary or higher. Additionally, representatives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the Fire Service and Civil Defence will be included. The representative from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works will serve as the member secretary, and the committee is authorized to co-opt additional members if necessary.

 

The committee is tasked with identifying the source and cause of the fire, determining any individual or professional accountability, and providing recommendations to prevent such incidents in the future. The report is to be submitted within seven working days.
