The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Bangladesh has reportedly uncovered evidence of fraudulent activity involving Tulip Siddiq, a British MP and niece of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. According to ACC findings, Tulip allegedly received a luxury apartment in Gulshan, Dhaka, as a “gift” in exchange for facilitating the illegal transfer of government land to private developer Eastern Housing Ltd. The land in question, nearly two bighas in size, originally belonged to the Dhaka Improvement Trust and was never meant for private ownership or transfer.

Investigations revealed that the land was originally allotted in 1964 to then Chief Justice Imam Hossain Chowdhury under strict non-transfer conditions. However, by 1974, it had changed hands and ended up under the control of Eastern Housing’s former chairman, Jahurul Islam. In 2000, leveraging her aunt Sheikh Hasina’s political influence during her tenure as Prime Minister, Tulip Siddiq allegedly helped Eastern Housing gain legal authority over the property. This included approval from Rajuk for dividing the land into 36 apartments—one of which, Flat No. 201, she later received.

In March this year, the ACC traced the apartment and secured a court order to seize it. While reviewing the documentation, the ACC found a series of irregularities throughout the entire process. They plan to file a case next week against Tulip Siddiq and former Rajuk official Sardar Mosharraf Hossain. Other individuals involved, such as Jahurul Islam and Dr. Muhammad Selim, cannot be prosecuted as they have passed away.

Legal experts have stated that plots allocated by Rajuk for public use cannot be legally converted for private or commercial benefit. Tulip Siddiq had previously been named in another ACC case involving fraudulent allocation of 60 kathas of land to members of the Sheikh family in Purbachal.
